Natural Colors in Home Decoration

Natural colors provide a very soothing environment in a home. In a comfortable well-kept home you will feel relaxed the moment you walk in the door as there is nothing that grabs your attention right away other than the whole restful color scheme.

But natural colors do not have to be boring. Wall to wall cream may look minimalist but it needs something to break it up and it is especially important with a natural color scheme to add interest with texture and accessories.

Flooring

The easiest choice is a natural wood floor, perhaps with a number of area rugs in cream or brown. If you prefer carpet then you will find a beige twist a good choice throughout your home as this will offer a neutral backdrop and give a feeling of space. As for kitchens and bathrooms, a natural stone surface would be good provided it is properly installed and sealed to provide water and stain resistance.

Curtains

Cream blinds or curtains are a good choice for your windows. A subtle floral pattern would also suit some styles and rooms. Or even a taupe linen or flax fabric. The exact style to choose depends on whether your room will be country, traditional or contemporary. All three styles could use a natural color scheme.

Furniture

Wood is again the natural choice for furniture and as with window treatments you can buy wooden furniture in all sorts of styles from the most contemporary to the most traditional. For sofas and chairs natural cream calico, heavy cotton or flax covers would work well as well as beige or rust.

Accessories

With a neutral backdrop you can really go to town on accessories and you could really go to town with a natural bronze or stone sculpture or architectural plants in huge stone pots. But you don’t have to spend the earth to finish off your natural decoration. Natural items such as grasses in a vase or pieces of driftwood or shells also look good, as do wooden bowls and groups of small plants in terracotta pots.
